Our Mission

To reduce the risk of child sexual abuse and to be an advocate and voice for children who have been sexually molested as well as their affected families.

What We Do

We are a Bermuda-registered charity (#922) formed to create greater awareness of the devastation that child sexual abuse can cause in the life of an innocent child, their affected family, and a community. Through the Darkness to Light ‘Stewards of Children’ and ‘Beyond Stewards of Children’ training programs, we provide ongoing prevention education to individuals and organizations entrusted with children to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

We also provide awareness through our one-hour ‘SAFE (SCARS Arms Families through Education)’ virtual presentation.  SAFE is a presentation created by SCARS that includes a ‘toolbox’ of information for parents and guardians and is presented at school PTA meetings across the island. The presentation includes what parents and guardians need to know and teach their children about this important topic, what questions to ask youth-serving organizations before enrolling in any program, and important body safety information.

SCARS continues to be a voice to our legislators and the local press with regard to child protection in our community.

If sexual abuse does occur, we also provide a list of resources to promote the healing process along with information on supporting families through the prosecution process and how to support survivors.

What We Believe

Child sexual abuse does not discriminate. It doesn’t matter the color of your skin, where you live, what church you attend, how much education you’ve received, your social economic status, or your sexual orientation. Survivors of childhood sexual abuse and child sex offenders can be anyone.
