This Privacy Policy describes how SCARS (collectively “we,” or “us”) will use personal information collected from you. When we refer to using personal information, we refer to collecting, obtaining, recording, holding, storing, organising, adapting, altering, retrieving, transferring, consulting, disclosing, disseminating or otherwise making available, combining, blocking, erasing or destroying your personal information. Most often, we collect and use your personal information to provide you with alternative health services. By “personal information”, we are referring to any information from which you could be identified, directly or indirectly, by itself or when combined with other information or context.

HOW WE COLLECT PERSONAL DATA

We only collect personal information directly from you and as a result of vetting checks that we run through World Check.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We may collect the following information from adult survivors and parents:

  • Name, email address, residential address and phone number
  • We may collect the following information from individuals we train and employees:
  • Name, email address, residential address and phone number
  • Information related to your use of our services such as the training received, the date of certification and the organization it related to
  • If you’re an employee, your employment application and supporting documents and when you interact through your employment

THE PURPOSES WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION FOR

We collect your personal information for the following purposes:

  • To maintain a record of who has received training and received SCARS certification and on what date
  • To provide you with reminders where repeat training is recommended or required
  • To inform you of “Survivor Hour”.
  • To conduct vetting through World Check
  • For fundraising purposes.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION

Once you are SCARS Certified, your date of certification will be made available, upon request, to any organization that works with children when required by law.

RETENTION OF INFORMATION

We will only retain personal information for as long as required to satisfy the above stated purposes for which we use personal information.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have the following rights in relation to your personal information:

  • Access–you can request access to your personal information, including to receive a copy of your personal information, why we use your personal information and to whom it has been disclosed.
  • Correction–if you believe your personal information is incorrect, you can ask us to correct it.
  • Marketing–you can request that we do not, or do not continue, to market our services to you.
  • Erasure–you can ask us to erase, delete or destroy your personal information.

We may charge a fee for the above, but it will be at a reasonable level.

If you want to exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the contact information below and submit the request in writing.

We note that where requests are manifestly unfounded or excessive, in particular because of their repetitive character, we may refuse to act on the request. We may need to retain personal information as required bylaw or regulatory requirements.
